Games for 3 - 5yrs Gardening in Spring - flowers for march

Spring time is the perfect time for getting wrapped up warm and gardening. Don't worry if you don't have a garden - window boxes are absolutely perfect for little fingers to play with!

This can certainly make a mess so it is important if you are doing it inside to cover an area with newspaper to protect your floor / carpets. If you have some outside space then wrap up warm and get planting.

You will need some seeds, a plant pot / window box or an area of the garden to turn into beds. Some seeds, a litttle trowel, good quality soil and of course a little watering can that little fingers can hold.

You can find all of these items at a local garden centre / DIY shop.

Ideas for what to plant in March include:

Vegetables (this will encourage your toddler / preschooler to eat their vegetables!): carrots, parsnips, broad beans, beetroot, leeks, cauliflowers. If you have some inside space try tomatoes in those "gro-bags", if you are feeling adventurous give peppers, aubergines, or even cucumbers a go but they will need to start growing in a warm environment.

For some flower ideas: Busy Lizzie are a great variety of a hardy flower that can usually survive the british weather - your garden centre will advise you on other plants depending on your location - whether your garden is shafdy / sunny etc.

You child can have fun watering his/her garden every day and watching it grow!
