Games for 3 - 5yrs Coloured Ice Games
When the weather is hot but you still need a quiet games to play. These coloured ice cubes are fun games to play in hot weather.
The aim is to make different colours of liquid from coloured ice cubes.
You will need:
- food colouring (ideally red, yellow and blue)
- icecube tray
In a cup put some water and food colouring. When you have about a cupful of coloured water pour it into the ice cube trays then put the trays into the freezer.
The primary colours are red, yellow and blue. (For the science nuts out there the primary colours in light are red, green and blue because light reflects the wave length you see. Pigments absorbs it which explains the differences.)
You can make every colour in the rainbow with these three colours. See if you can get your little one to experiment by putting different amounts of ice cubes in different colours in each glass and see what colour they make when melted.
You can even add ice cubes later to change the colour if it is not what you want.
